Huawei says Q3 smartphone shipments jump 26pc, strong demand for high-end devices

China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd said third-quarter smartphoneshipments jumped 26 percent year-on-year, doubling devices shipped to the high-margin premium market dominated by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Apple Inc.
Shenzhen-based Huawei, the world's third-biggest smartphone supplier after the dominant pair, shipped 16.8 million smartphones globally in the quarter ended Sept. 30, according to company data. About a quarter of those were mid- to high-end models, more than twice as many as the same period last year.
"We are breaking our bottlenecks of mid- to high-end models step by step, especially in overseas markets," Huawei consumer business group marketing executive Shao Yang told Reuters in an interview.
Huawei, like Chinese rivals Lenovo Group Ltd and ZTE Corp , is better known for selling low- and mid-priced handsets in emerging markets than high-end models in developed countries.
Industry watchers say that although Huawei's premium devices are cutting-edge, the company has struggled to break into the high-end sector markets like the United States due to a lack of brand recognition and security concerns. Huawei had 6.7 percent of the global smartphone market in the second quarter, a distant third behind Samsung Electronics and Apple, according to analysis firm IDC.
As if to prove a point, Huawei unveiled a smartphone with an advanced sapphire glass display just days before Apple released its highly anticipated iPhone 6 in September.
"We have never questioned our ability to make products, but sometimes we are worried if we could occupy a place emotionally in consumers' hearts. So we will try to achieve that next year," Shao said.
Huawei's global marketing budget would leap at least 30 percent in 2015, compared with $440 million this year, he said.
The company has shipped 51 million smartphones globally in the first three quarters of 2014 - about 63.8 percent of its annual shipment target of 80 million, according to Reuters' calculations, based on figures provided by Huawei.
Shao said he expected quarter-on-quarter shipments growth of up to 80 percent in the fourth quarter, a peak holiday season for smartphone vendors.

Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp on Thursday posted a 191 percent jump in quarterly net profit

Chinese telecom equipment
maker ZTE Corp on Thursday posted a 191
percent jump in quarterly net profit, thanks to strong demand
for equipment to build China's next-generation mobile networks.
ZTE posted a 703 million yuan ($114.89 million) profit for
July-September, the company said in a filing to the Shenzhen
stock exchange.
The result was in line with a 570 million to 770 million
yuan estimate, according to Reuters' calculations based on
company data released in August.
ZTE, which competes with Huawei Technologies Co Ltd
in the telecom gear and smartphone sectors, posted a record
first-half profit in August thanks to improving margins in its
global business and higher 4G capital expenditure in China.
Shares in the company fell 0.4 percent in Hong Kong prior to
the announcement on Thursday. The stock has risen 12 percent so
far this year.

Huawei Honor 4X specs leaked by China’s TENAA

China’s TENAA has just listed the Huawei Honor 4X along with most of the smartphone’s specifications. By the looks of it, the Huawei Honor 4X is a mid-range smartphone designed to compete against the Xiaomi RedMi series.
Since the Huawei Honor 4X isn’t official yet, the exact pricing is yet to be unveiled by the Chinese manufacturer. Sources from all over the blogosphere speculate that the Honor 4X will be priced at roughly CNY 800, which at the current conversion rates mean roughly $130. That’s a bit lower than what Xiaomi asks for the 2GB version of the Redmi Note, a smartphone with similar specs that has been selling like crazy in China. It’s also the same price that Xiaomi asks for the 1GB version of the Redmi Note.
Huawei Honor 4X Huawei Honor 4X specs leaked by Chinas TENAA
What we do know for sure are the smartphone’s specifications, as this is where the TENAA leak comes in. The Huawei Honor 4X will come with a 5.5-inch display running a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, a 1.2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM. Other notable specs include a 13MP primary camera, a 5MP secondary camera, a microSD card slot, as well as support for FDD LTE, TD LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, CDMA, and GSM, which are all of the standards you’re going to find through China. On the software front, the Honor 4X will run Android 4.4 KitKat.
Based on the smartphone’s support for both FDD and TD LTE, GizChina speculates that the Huawei Ascend Honor 4X is likely to be based on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset. Unfortunately, we were not able to find any mention of the chip in the specifications listed by TENAA.
The pics posted by TENAA reveal that the Honor 4X won’t come with a premium build in the style of the Ascend Mate series, a detail that seems to reinforce speculations claiming that the Huawei Honor 4X will be aimed at the budget segment of the market. The official dimensions are 152.9 × 77.2 × 8.85 (mm).
At the moment, we don’t know if the Huawei Honor 4X will make it out of China. Although the smartphone isn’t likely to make it to US shores through official channels, Huawei does have a tradition of releasing its smartphones in various markets around Europe, so we shouldn’t rule out the possibility of an European launch just yet.

Apple announces financial results for Q4 of the fiscal 2014

Apple announced its financial results for Q4 of the fiscal 2014. The Cupertino giant took home a quarterly net profit of $8.5 billion or $1.42 per diluted share from $42.1 billion of revenue. Its gross margin for the quarter is 38%.
The above result is an improvement over the $7.5 billion of net profit from $37.5 billion of revenue for thesame quarter last year. Gross margin for last year’s quarter was 37%.
Unsurprisingly iPhone sales were the main driving force behind the stellar financial performance. Apple moved 39.2 million smartphones - up from 33.8 million for the same quarter last year.
Mac sales impressed too. An impressive 5.52 million computers were sold - way up from the expected $4.9 million.
Sales of Apple iPad however, weren’t so impressive. Cupertino sold 12.3 million slates - down the projected 13.1 million. Apple sold 14.1 million tablets in the same quarter last year.
Apple’s guidance of the next fiscal quarter is expectedly optimistic. The manufacturer expects revenue in the range of $63.5 and $66.5 billion and gross margin between 37.5% and 38.5%.
The above guidance should hardly catch anyone by surprise, as next quarter is going to include the holiday shopping season. It will also mark a full fiscal period of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus retail availability. The new iPad Air 2 will also likely help Apple’s cause.

China’s ZTE intends expanding its market share in smartphones in South Africa

Han Xun Jian

China’s ZTE intends expanding its market share in smartphones in South Africa through an aggressive marketing campaign aimed at growing consumer awareness of its brand, its newly appointed chairman, Han Xun Jian, says.
The company hopes to grab 10% of South Africa’s smartphone market within three years, Han tells TechCentral. He won’t disclose the company’s current market share, but admits that it’s a tiny fraction of that.
ZTE, the biggest rival of China’s Huawei, has grown its business substantially in South Africa in recent years, winning contracts with MTNCell CVodacom and FibreCo. The company has just been awarded a contract to build a national fibre-to-the-home network for MTN, Han says.
ZTE focuses on three strategic sectors.
The first is telecommunications, where its supplies a wide range of equipment and services to operators.
The second is the broad information and communications technology space, where its clients are big enterprises and governments. Focus areas here are broadband, energy, transportation and public sector solutions.
Lastly is the consumer segment, where ZTE intends directing money to marketing in the run-up to Christmas to raise its profile among South Africans.

ZOPO with extremely high specification - ZP999

ZOPO with extremely high specification - ZP999

ZOPO released their new phone ZP999 recently, which has been seen as the best phone of ZOPO, intergrates MTK6595M processor, 3G RAM and 4G network etc, I think ZOPO will use ZP999 to compete with other high-end phones on the market.

ZP999 equips with 2GHz MTK6595M Octa-core processor, maybe you don't feel amazing about this, but when it wors with 3GB RAM, the performance of the phone will be awesome, it's hard to find Chinese phone with such high specs, and the ROM also ups to 32G. In addition, ZP999 supports 2G, 3G and 4G network, includes TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, GSM, WCDMA and FDD-LTE.

For display and camera, they are highlights of the device as well, 5.5 inch LTPS screen with 1920*1080 resolution and Gorillaglass, must have a great visual enjoyment. The camera of ZP999 are really crazy, 5MP front camera and 14MP back camera have beat most of smartphones now, user definitely get clear picture with high definition.

Other specs like NFC, OTG, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wifi-display are attractive, so ZP999 is really a good choice of high-end phone without high price. If you can not afford to XIAOMI, MEIZU, I think you can try this one.

Thanks to Vladimir Burnin in Comments for pointing it out. It’s listed at theChinese Teclast site.
They’re not calling it the Teclast X98 Air II With Windows, but it uses the same Intel Z3736F as the Air II, with a peak frequency of 2.16GHz.

This is the first 9.7-inch tablet Teclast has produced with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. Prior tablets were Android-based and required an onerous firmware download and installation.

And, hark! Teclast has also added a Windows edition of the X98 Air (non-3G version) to their Chinese site and Tmall. This model has the Intel Z3735D with a peak frequency of 1.83GHz.
My head is beginning to spin trying to keep straight all of the Teclast tablets.

Teclast X89HD Gets Faster CPU, Drops HD In Name

It seems to be the same as the X89HD except the CPU has been upgraded to the Z3736F at 2.16GHz peak frequency.

As the X89HD, it suffered from too much heat — which caused apps not to respond — and short battery life. With a faster CPU, will those problems worsen? Or did Teclast do an interior redesign?
